Appeal for FoodCycle Hub Leaders

The nationwide organisation aims to save surplus food and feed hungry people. As with any of the FoodCycle Hubs across the country, they are only possible with the help of volunteers.

In order to get this new Hub up and running Foodcycle are looking to recruit volunteers to become Hub Leaders.  This role is a great way for anyone to develop new skills and full training is provided. As a Hub Leader you would be involved in all aspects of the project from co-ordinating volunteers to managing relationships with food donors.  Any volunteers will be completely supported in this role.

FoodCycle Birmingham Aston serves meals in Birmingham and they served over 400 meals to vulnerable people last year. These meals were cooked with over 200 kilos of surplus food from local supermarkets which donate their unsold food.

Mary McGrath, Chief Executive of FoodCycle said “We are so happy to be launching a second meal service in Birmingham. With many Birmingham residents living in ‘food deserts’, healthy and nutritious meals are more important than ever.”

Cat Slaytor, Midlands Communications Manager at Veolia said “We are really excited to be part of this new project which will make a real difference to people living in Birmingham as well as reducing the amount of food that goes to waste."
