Veolia sponsor Making Birmingham Greener & Healthier Awards 2016

Shab Haque, Communications Officer, Veolia; Toby Terlet, General Manager, Veolia and Jess Kalisiak, Wildlife Trust for Birmingham & the Black Country are pond dipping at Small Heath EcoPark to demonstrate getting in touch with nature which is an important part of the new Naturally Greener (Biophilic) award.

We are thrilled to announce that for the second year running Veolia in Birmingham will be sponsoring the city’s Greener and Healthier Awards; and this year they are even bigger and better!

Birmingham’s Green Commission works with people from businesses, researchers, local authorities and voluntary organisations to ensure the city is becoming one of the greenest, and most environmentally friendly in the world.  The awards will promote and celebrate sustainable development; sustainable travel; sustainability in business; energy reduction; increased recycling; making space for nature, along with health and well-being initiatives for people living and working within the city. The Green Commission’s vision for Birmingham is for it to become a leading green city such as Stockholm and Copenhagen in Europe, and Portland in the USA.

This year a fifth category has been introduced, Best Naturally Green (Biophilic) Scheme, and applicants are being asked to demonstrate the efforts they have made to protect wildlife, create wildlife habitats and increase biodiversity; projects that have improved access to green living spaces; adapting to climate change schemes; growing projects and generally what they have done to connect to the natural environment.

Veolia, in partnership with Birmingham City Council, are inviting schools, colleges, universities, businesses and community groups to apply to become Birmingham’s “green champions” for 2016. Entries are welcome from all, for further information and application forms please visithttp://www.makingbirminghamgreener.com/2016/making-birmingham-greener-healthier-awards-2016/
