Veolia and Haringey Council to continue partnership in contract extension

The UK’s leading resource management company has been awarded a two year contract extension to continue its work to deliver ecological transformation in the London Borough of Haringey.
Veolia Haringey

Veolia has been working in partnership with Haringey Council to provide street cleansing, recycling, and waste management services for residents in the borough since 2011, and this extension will see them continuing to work together until 2027.

The contract extension, worth £21.6 million, includes recycling and refuse collections, container deliveries, street cleansing, winter maintenance, graffiti and fly-posting removal, commercial waste services, and running a Contact Centre to provide essential service support for residents.

Over the next few years, Veolia and Haringey Council will continue to strive towards an improved recycling rate. Currently, at 27.4%, they’ll work together to develop existing services and introduce new initiatives to help residents recycle as much as possible.

This will include a dedicated collection service for small electricals that will help salvage precious materials and prevent the growing number of fires caused by these items in vehicles and facilities. The contract has already introduced smaller electric cars into its fleet, and one of the electric vans will be used to operate this service.

Alongside its operational delivery, Veolia will also build upon its already extensive social value and responsible employer programme that has seen numerous diversity, inclusion and community-focused programmes benefiting the local community and the teams working there.

Veolia Haringey

In the last year alone, the Veolia Haringey team has delivered nearly 400 hours of staff volunteering time attending events, workshops and meetings in partnership with local enterprises and charitable organisations. This has aided those in vulnerable or socially disadvantaged groups, supporting them with mentors and skills development programmes and identifying potential employment opportunities.

Pascal Hauret, Managing Director, Municipal at Veolia said:

"We’re delighted to be continuing our long partnership with Haringey Council. The next few years will see us strive for higher recycling rates and the conservation of resources, in line with our purpose of ecological transformation.

“We’re particularly proud of all the social value initiatives the partnership has fostered and look forward to increasing this added value to the communities we serve together.”
