What is the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme?

The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) is a funding initiative that supports public sector bodies in achieving their sustainability goals. PSDS supports the aim of reducing emissions from public sector buildings by 75% by 2037. The funding is delivered through grants and can be instrumental in promoting a greener, more sustainable future by utilising heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures.

Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme Guidance

In February 2024, the Government released details for Phase 4 funding, which will see £1.17 billion funding allocated for public sector decarbonisation: £670 million in 2025/26, £300m in 2026/27 and £200m in 2027/28. The window for applications to Phase 3C of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme is opening very soon (Autumn 2023). We want to help you prepare ahead of this deadline, inevitably optimising your chances of a successful application.

These are some of the types of projects you can access the funding for:

  • Installation, operation and maintenance of low carbon heat technology such as Air Source, Water Source and Ground Source Heat Pumps or geothermal technology
  • Implementing Energy Conservation Measures to reduce consumption, such as lighting and insulation
  • Updating Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems to minimise unnecessary energy usage
  • Installing an energy management system such as Hubgrade to have greater control over your organisation’s consumption
  • We can support you in taking a holistic approach to implementing Energy Conservation Measures across your organisation, considering the needs of different buildings and sites

Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF)

The Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF) provides grants for public sector organisations to access expert advice and skills required to develop a heat decarbonisation plan. We recommend exploring the opportunities available through the upcoming release of Phase 5 of the LCSF. The application window is open from 17th April to 1st May.

Catalyst for future grants and long-term carbon savings

An LSCF feasibility study will, in turn, support you in any future grant funding applications for capital decarbonisation measures, such as the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS). The funding available through LCSF and PSDS will help you implement decarbonisation plans, driving significant CO₂ and cost savings through green technologies and innovative energy efficiencies.

Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF) Success

We can help you create detailed project proposals, just as we did for Eastbourne District General Hospital. They secured a £30k LSCF feasibility study into the use of high versus low voltage in their Endoscopy Facility. Our investigation subsequently supported this hospital's PSDS decarbonisation project that helped save 4,000 tonnes of CO₂.

Watch how we collaborated with Eastbourne District General Hospital to achieve a reduction of 4,000 tonnes of CO2.
