Wishcycling

Recyclable Objects

Why wishful thinking could ruin your recycling

To recycle or not to recycle - that is the question we sometimes ponder as we hover that greasy food container over the recycling bin. Wishcycling it in the hope it is recyclable won’t help either as the wrong things in the bin could spoil the other highly recyclable items already in there.

Check out the items below to find out why wishcycling them doesn’t work and what to do with them instead!

yellow batteries

Batteries

The corrosive nature of their ingredients means batteries in the wrong bin are a high fire risk. We provide special battery bins for them, though, so just ask!

Veolia UK _ Procycle clothes and textiles

Clothing and Textiles

These can get caught in and clog the machinery at the recycling facility.

These items should be donated to charity, dropped off at Textile Banks, or taken to your local centre for recycling separately.

Single Use Plastic Cups and Forks

Soft Plastics and Film

These types of plastics can’t be sorted with the rest of your recycling and require specialist treatment.

Get in touch to find out how we can help your business recycle large quantities of these plastics.

Veolia UK _ Procycle Crisp Packets

Crisp Packets and Foil Pouches

These items are made up of metal linings and plastic packaging so they must be sorted separately.

Pop them in the general waste bin or speak to us about Procycle.

Fast food packaging

Dirty Food Containers

Food residue on containers such as yoghurt pots and margarine tubs spoils other materials such as paper and cardboard. Empty and rinse them out before putting them in the recycling bin.

Paper towels, tissues, dishcloths

Used Tissues, Wet Wipes and Cotton Buds

Commonly mistaken for paper-like products, but considering what they’re used for, they definitely belong in the bin!

Light Bulbs

Light bulbs can only be recycled through specialist recycling methods to separate the glass from the precious metals. Contact us to see how we can help.

And don’t forget, when in doubt, leave it out.
