Tristan’s mum Stacey contacted West Berkshire Council earlier in the year to pass a message on to the Veolia Environmental Services crews who always stop to say ‘Hello’ and wave to Tristan.
Stacey said: “Tristan is fascinated by the bin lorries and absolutely thrilled with the guys who empty our bins. On collection day, as soon as he hears them he’s out the front waiting – whatever the weather!”
After a visit to the Veolia Open Day at Padworth earlier in the year, staff heard it was Tristan’s birthday so made him a personalised card that everyone signed. The crew emptying the Hawley family’s bin on Wednesday stopped by to deliver it. Stacey had made Tristan a special bin lorry cake, which he shared with the crew when they stopped.
Pete Westlake, driver for Veolia in West Berkshire added: “It was great that we could make Tristan’s birthday so exciting for him and look forward to making sure we see him each time we visit to empty the bins.”
Dominic Boeck, West Berkshire's Executive Councillor for the Environment said: "I am delighted to hear that the crew has built up such a rapport with Tristan. It is nice to hear that our crews are building up good relationships with community members of all ages."
