Home of the 2010 Ryder Cup and host venue of the NATO Summit 2014, the award-winning five-star Celtic Manor Resort is set in 2,000 acres of parkland at the gateway to Wales. The resort includes a 330-room luxury Resort Hotel, a Manor House with 70 rooms, the 148-room Coldra Court and the Newbridge on Usk Country Inn, a large convention centre, spas and health clubs. The numerous leisure activities cover golf, fishing, treetop high ropes course and tennis courts.

The challenge

The Celtic Manor Resort recognises its moral and social responsibilities and is committed to developing an environmentally responsible business. In line with its aim, the resort wanted to increase recycling rates with a zero waste to landfill objective and maintain value for money.

The solution

To meet Celtic Manor’s aims to deliver higher recycling rates, lower contamination and reduce costs, Veolia introduced a number of measures to deliver a service that reduces costs and increases recycling and landfill diversion.

Glass and food recycling has been implemented on all sites and an area has been set aside for WEEE, metal and hazardous waste streams. By using regular drivers familiar with the geography and local area, Veolia has been able to optimise collections and avoid access issues.

Monthly reports are now sent to the resort allowing accurate reporting to the board and all staff, giving Celtic Manor confidence that the recycling and diversion figures for each site are correct. The resort was assigned a dedicated Veolia account manager which has further enhanced the management of its services and this helps to deal with any unplanned issues effectively.

Value delivered

Veolia has implemented significant changes to on-site waste handling processes across the resort’s buildings and facilities, increased recycling rates and user awareness and helped return cost savings and an improved service for the venue.
