Veolia powers tallest tower hotel in the UK

Due for completion in Autumn 2016, the tallest hotel tower in the UK will soon benefit from the on-site generation of low carbon electricity, heating and hot water using one of Veolia’s latest combined heat and power (CHP) units. By using CHP the landmark hotel will cut around 213 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year and save the equivalent Grid energy for nearly two million hot showers.

The latest addition on the London skyline, the Novotel London Canary Wharf will have 313 bedrooms in a 39 storey, 127m high tower that includes conference facilities, restaurants and a bar on the top floors offering views across the city. As reliable electricity and heating are key to maintaining the comfort of the guests the CHP unit will provide a 24/7 energy supply to the 19,000m2 building when complete. Veolia’s specialist CHP team will also provide full operational and lifetime maintenance support for the low emission 135kWe CHP unit.

The new structure has been built on a site at 40 Marsh Wall, following the demolition of a 1990s office building and comprises a 127m high glazed tower designed to fit in with the surrounding skyline of the Canary Wharf business district. The addition of CHP to the energy delivery of the building will further highlight Accor Hotel’s sustainability commitment in the hotel sector.

In the UK Veolia already provides CHP services to over 110 hotels which reduce climate change by annually saving the over 33,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and improving the sustainability of over 640,000 overnight stays.
