How We Work With Agricultural Landowners
By measuring the amount of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere, we can accurately quantify the impact of enhanced weathering and ensure that it is an effective method of carbon removal whilst boosting agricultural productivity.
Veolia UK has an extensive track record over the past 33+ years of supporting the agricultural sector and managing agricultural landspreading operations. Veolia is trusted by a network of over 2500 farmers nationally and through sustainable farming practices, we aim to maximise crop yields while minimising the environmental impact of farming. Veolia understands the unique challenges of farming and agriculture in the UK and tailor our enhanced weathering operations around our proven track record of working with the sector.
To implement enhanced weathering in selected areas throughout the UK and Northern Ireland , we currently work with and would love to hear from:
- Farmers
- Landowners
- Quarry Owners and Operators
- Spreading and Haulage Contractors
- Precision Sampling Companies
Working closely with and involving landowners and suppliers in our operations is critical to the enhanced weathering program’s success. Farmers and landowners are the primary users of the land, and their input is essential in identifying suitable locations for applying the crushed rocks. We also work closely with suppliers to ensure that the materials used are of the highest quality.
How We Track and Certify an Effective Method of Carbon Removal
First of all, a member of our team will meet you to discuss which fields would be suitable for spreading and answer any questions you may have.
We will then visit your land and take some soil samples to understand the best application rates and benefits to the land. This will include sharing the agronomic data of the soil analysis, free of charge.
Our operations team will schedule local haulage and spreading contractors and be onsite with you for the application. The application of basalt dust will be provided free of charge.
Every six months, we will undertake soil samples to measure the agronomic changes such as pH, available nutrients, and potential toxic elements and measure the carbon dioxide removal.
Our approach involving landowners and suppliers in its operations is based on collaboration and transparency, which is a testament to our commitment to sustainable development.
A Pathway to Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change
Spreading basalt dust (a mineral-rich volcanic rock) on land increases the soil’s nutrient availability, promoting healthy crop growth. So, why choose Veolia for Agricultural Co-benefits and Enhanced Weathering services?
- Free of charge application of nutrient-rich material to your land
- Increase soil pH
- Increase nutrient retention capabilities of soil
- Improved crop resistance to pests and disease
