What is Social Value?
At Veolia, Social Value represents the social and environmental value generated by our work, going beyond financial value or profits.
In 2012 the Social Value Act laid out in legislation the requirements of public sector bodies to consider the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of an area when commissioning public services.
The Procurement Policy Note 06/20 advanced this by setting a minimum 10% weighting on social value in the award of central government contracts.
What is The Institute for Social Value?
The Institute for Social Value (ISV), formerly known as Social Value UK, is the professional body for social value and impact management in the UK. It supports organisations and individuals in measuring, managing, and optimising their social impact.
The ISV provides guidance, training and accreditation pathways, alongside opportunities for networking and benchmarking, to foster a culture of accountability and transparency. The ISV assures reporting, furthers sustainable practices and lobbies on behalf of its members for social value to be considered alongside traditional financial measures.
It promotes the application of The Eight Principles of Social Value to ensure decisions are made with social impact in mind. As part of Social Value International, The ISV sets and upholds standards, focusing on societal outcomes over mere outputs.
Social Value at Veolia
Our dedication to delivering a more sustainable future for all extends far beyond the provision of energy, waste and water solutions. We are deeply committed to creating a lasting, positive impact on the communities we serve every day.
In recent years, we've launched our Veolia Orchard programme to reconnect school pupils across the country with nature and to show them how to grow their own fresh fruit. Our teams are embedded in the communities they serve, providing guidance and solutions to help residents and community groups improve their local environments and provide funding through such initiatives as the Sustainability Fund when they need a little extra boost.
The Institute’s diverse membership and emphasis on collaboration provides us with the exciting opportunity to lend our experience to thought leadership development and events.
