Around 80 participants - and three dogs - covered 558 miles for charity
They completed a distance of 558 miles from the largest RAF and Navy bases in the UK to the country's largest Army base - using any non-motorised transport they could lay their hands on.
Around 80 participants - and three dogs - covered sections of the route up and down the UK over five consecutive weekends to raise over £1,700 for two charities; Scotty's Little Soldiers which supports the children of Armed Forces personnel who have lost their lives in service, whilst WaterAid provides water and sanitation to some of the world's poorest communities.
This vast journey linked HMNB Clyde in Faslane and RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire to the Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire. Participants signed up to complete 10-mile sections of the route by any non-motorised means, which included walking, cycling and even space hopping!
Andrew Mathewson, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) Head of Infrastructure PFIs, who has been monitoring progress keenly said:
"I'm delighted to see that the entire route of this fantastic challenge has been completed. The fact that Aquatrine Team members from across the UK have joined together to ensure the whole route has been covered shows great group cohesion. I'm proud that the challenge has raised vital funds for two such worthy causes."
The Aquatrine Supplier Association is made up of three partnering companies and the Ministry of Defence (MOD). It consists of representatives from C2C Services, Kelda Water Services and Veolia Water Nevis - providers of water and wastewater services to defence sites across the UK through Defence Infrastructure Organisation of the MOD.
Dave Godfrey, General Manager of C2C and his colleague Mark Amor, Water Resources Manager both cycled the largest distance of 85 miles from Longtown in Carlisle down to Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.
Participants from each of the four organisations came from all over the UK to take part in a section of the route, with Richard Anderson, General Manager of Veolia Water Nevis starting the launch event at HMNB Clyde in Faslane and Robert Marrill, Managing Director of Kelda Water Services getting things underway at RAF Brize Norton, in Oxfordshire.
