Dalkia to operate and maintain CHP for Cleveland Potash

CHP to support Cleveland Potash mine's high energy load

Potash is a type of salt used in many industrial applications and processes in the glassmaking, fertiliser, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. The mine produces over a million tons of potash for fertilizers and more than half a million tons of salt each year from under the North Sea. In addition the mine's salt products meet a variety of other needs including road maintenance, sugar beet cultivation and as an ingredient in animal feeds.

The mine has a high energy load. This is deployed in the extraction process and also in operations to refine the potash. It uses a total of five 3.2MWe CHP units, producing power and heat. Associated waste heat boilers are also used onsite to generate heat and process steam.

To support the operation and maintenance at the site Dalkia has deployed a full time onsite team. Out of hours cover is provided by Dalkia's mobile teams, facilitated by a 24-hour helpdesk and remote monitoring facility.

Ashley Malin of Dalkia said: "Ongoing efficiency is crucial to any industrial site. Any period of downtime is a serious concern and sites therefore need reliable operation and maintenance partners to ensure ongoing energy provision in an efficient and timely manner. Cleveland Potash will benefit from Dalkia's expertise in the industrial sector".
