DCCT and Veolia continue to help tackle Climate Change

Veolia Carbon Boot Print re-launched to engage young people in looking after the planet

Derby County Community Trust and Veolia Environmental Services are delighted to be re-launching their innovative partnership delivering the Veolia Carbon Boot Print. Now heading into its fourth year, the partnership has engaged over 100 schools working with over 4,000 young people.

The aim of the Veolia Carbon Boot Print is to engage young people in year 5 in a fun and interactive programme educating the children on the importance of looking after the planet whilst increasing physical activity levels. Sessions delivered over a six week period are split between classroom lessons and practical activities out on the playground re-enforcing the messages taught in class.

One participating teacher described the project as “A fabulous opportunity for children to learn about caring for the environment”, with one of the children adding “I now tell my mum to turn the TV off when we are not watching it.”

Kevin Hurst, Director of Marketing and Communications at Veolia Environmental Services said “I am very proud to see this partnership go from strength to strength. We have begun a legacy for the Derby area so that for years to come the children of the region will be engaged to learn more about climate change and share the message with their parents!”

DCCT Community Manager Paul Newman said: “It is great that Veolia continue to support the delivery of the Carbon Boot Print, our schools are continuously asking us to deliver more of the programme so Veolia’s support allows us to do this. It is also great that the children make pledges to be more responsible about the environment”.

The fourth year of the partnership will be celebrated at the Rams home fixture against Reading on Saturday 21st September. 250 Veolia staff, family and friends will join DCFC at Pride Park as we highlight the great work of the project. On the day we will have shirt and mobile phone amnesties as well as a big push on getting DCFC fans to come to the game in a “green” way. There will also be children’s activities going on on the pitch at half-time.
