Iconic Swan Hunter Shipyard opens its doors for an exclusive open day

Newcastle residents invited to see how decommissioned oil and gas rigs can be turned into a new resource

Residents in Newcastle Upon Tyne and neighbouring areas are invited to take a look behind the scenes at the iconic Swan Hunter Shipyard on Friday 30th September. Veolia Environmental Services, operators of the site, will be holding the special Open Day from 11am to 3.30pm and all visitors are welcome.

The event is designed to show how the site has been transformed from a historic shipyard to its more updated recycling facilities turning decommissioned oil and gas rigs into a new resource.

During the day visitors can experience:
• A tour around the shipyard
• Learn about the history of the site
• Gain an understanding of the processes that take place on site.

Mark Andrew, Dismantling and Demolition Manager at Veolia Environmental Services’ Swan Hunter Shipyard said:
“We think this is a great opportunity for our neighbours and local residents to come and explore what happens at our site. We hope people will come to meet us and gain an inside view on how we are working behind the scenes on their behalf!”

Attendees will have the option of attending two sessions at 11am or 2pm but must book their place in advance. If you would like to attend the open day on Friday 30th September please contact 0191 202 1471
