New facility in Birmingham to divert waste from landfill

Veolia Environmental Services, the UK’s leading recycling and waste management company, is opening its new commercial Material Recovery Facility (MRF) today. The new facility offers a wide range of recycling services designed to help the West Midlands business community and save money by diverting waste from landfill and send it shorter distances so further improving their green credentials.

Up to 20,000 tonnes per year of recyclates including card, paper, wood and plastics will be handled at the MRF which has been sized to support the local market enabling businesses to reduce their carbon miles. Customers will also be able to benefit from commercial co-mingled collections accepting a wider range of recycled materials in a single container.

Staff on site will also be trained to supply advice to customers on business legal compliance, and assist with pre-treatment and new legislation in regard to recycling and waste management services.

“By collecting mixed recyclates together we will also be providing a user-friendly service, diverting business waste away from landfill, and lessening their landfill tax costs which are set to increase year on year.”
